What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy, sometimes known as cold therapy, is the local or general use of low temperatures in medical therapy. Cryotherapy may be used to treat a variety of tissue lesions. The most prominent use of the term refers to the surgical treatment, specifically known as cryosurgery or cryoablation. Cryosurgery is the application of extremely low temperatures to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue and is used most commonly to treat skin conditions. With the machine it emits a fine jet of Nitrous Oxide under high pressure, which allows the clinician to work with millimetre precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical.

An advanced freezing innovation that is a fast, effective, safe and new solution for removal of skin imperfections.

Procedures typically last from 5 to 30 seconds.

The treatment is conducted in three short stages:

First Freeze

The practitioner will apply the CryoPen™ to the treatment area, freezing it for up to 30 seconds. The duration of the first cycle will depend upon the depth and the size of the imperfection.

Defrost

We allow the area to defrost for approximately 30 seconds between the first and second freeze.

Second Freeze

The freezing process is repeated for a second time. During this cycle, the cells will freeze quicker.
